ESEC2005 Demonstration

The following introduces the SUZAKU section of the demonstration shown at the 9th Embedded Systems Expo & Conference (ESEC) held in Tokyo from June 29th this year.
The introduction of the demonstration (a simple network camera system) includes both FPGA and software source files, which we hope will be of some use as a reference application example.

  • Demonstration: Network Camera System
  • Products used: SUZAKU-S, SUZAKU-V and Armadillo-9

Network Camera System

The system included the following devices:

CCD Cameras

Two network ready CCD cameras with direction control.
These were made using SUZAKU-V by connecting standard (digital output) CCD cameras and servo motors.

Detailed information and source files

CCD Camera Controller 1

A network ready image output device.
Control of the cameras and attached motors can be performed with a joystick. It was produced using an Armadillo-9, connecting a standard VGA monitor and USB joystick.

CCD Camera Controller 2

A network ready image output device.
The cameras and attached motors are controlled via buttons. This was made by connecting a standard VGA monitor (via a D/A converter expansion board) and a LED/button mounted board to a SUZAKU-S.

System Overview

Image Transfer Flow

1. From Armadillo-9/SUZAKU-S to SUZAKU-V

Image transfer requests are sent from the Armadillo-9/SUZAKU-S to the SUZAKU-V.

2. From SUZAKU-V to Armadillo9/SUZAKU-S

The image data is transferred from the SUZAKU-V to the Armadillo-9/SUZAKU-S.

3. From Armadillo9/SUZAKU-S

The RGB image is outputted to a VGA monitor from the Armadillo-9/SUZAKU-S. The SUZAKU-S requires a D/A converter expansion board.

Motor Control Flow

(A) From button board to SUZAKU-S

CCD camera selection and motor control can be performed from the button/LED board.

(A) From joystick to Armadillo-9

CCD camera selection and motor control is performed with a joystick.

(B) The Armadillo-9/SUZAKU-S to SUZAKU-V

Motor movement requests are sent from the Armadillo-9/SUZAKU-S to the SUZAKU-V.

(C) From SUZAKU-V to motor

Direction signals are sent to the servo motor from the SUZAKU-V.
